FromSoftware the president of FromSoftware Hidetaka Miyazaki's love for Kentaro Miura's Manga and the anime Berserk is perhaps the most secluded secret within the Elden Ring Runes gaming industry. While he avoids explicitly discussing the relationship between his games as well as Berserk and Miura's work, it's apparent that every Miyazaki-led project from the 2009 release of Demon's Souls has been influenced in a way or other by the epic of dark fantasy Miura wrote for more than 30 years, until his death in 2021.
The tendency to draw comparisons to Berserk is evident in Elden Ring, the Souls successor to the game that came out in the last month. Even before the game launched the game, players scoured each piece of marketing material to show how this armor resembled something from Berserk or how the design of the enemy was reminiscent of Miura's work. And having spent nearly 100 hours playing the game over the last couple of weeks I couldn't help but take note of these similarities as well.
Spoilers follow on as well Elden Ring and Berserk But, really, what are you even doing here if you're trying not to be a victim?
Let's get the obvious Berserk homage off the table first.Elden Ring's massive world includes many areas I've nicknamed "sword field." I'll admitthat this isn't particularly innovative: They're simply small fields covered in swords. All have been stabbed blade-first into the ground, allowing them to stand upright. In the middle of each is a bigger sword with an inscription that usually provides a snippet of information about the history of the game.
When I first saw one of these sword fields, it immediately brought to mind me of Berserk's famous Hill of Swords. In both the anime and manga, this Hill of Swords is meant as a tribute to wounded soldiers of Band of the Hawk, which is a mercenary unit that functions as the show's principal characters throughout its early run. Rickert was one of the remaining soldiers of the band, forges the countless blades of the Hill of Swords as tribute to his former compatriots.
My personal opinion is that the sword fields of elden ring items buy online serve the similar purpose. I like to think they're intended to honor Miura the man whose death greatly affected those familiar with his work. The question is whether they were added to Elden Ring before or after the death of Miura, we'll not be able to tell, but it's a fitting tribute to the man who was influential to many of the games' predecessors.
